Lisbon, October 12, 1909. I HAVE the honour to state that the newspapers of to-day's date announce that commission has been appointed to report on the measures to be taken for the dual suppression of opium smoking at Macau, in accordance with the findings of The existing we international commission held at Shanghae in February last. regulations are to be modified and reconstructed apparently on the same lines as those in force at Hong Kong. Senhor José de Azevedo Castello Branco, a former among the Portuguese Minister at Peking, has been appointed president, and members of the commission are Senhor Francisco Diogo de Sá, acting governor of Macau, and Oscar Potier, Portuguese consul-general at Shanghae.
